How to convert inches to centimeters
To convert inches to centimeters, multiply each value by the exact factor in the box: 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters exactly (the international definition since 1959). There is no rounding anywhere in the chain — the display trims the final answer to six decimal places, and converting the result back with the inverse page returns your starting number.
The inch survives — exactly 2.54 cm by definition — wherever American products set the standard: screen diagonals, tyre and wheel sizes, pipe threads, photo prints and lumber. The centimeter is what the rest of the world, and every metric tape measure, furniture listing and clothing label outside the US, expects instead. Multiplying by 2.54 is the whole conversion; the craft is in knowing which inch figure you actually have.
Screen sizes are the everyday case: a 55 in television is 139.7 cm across its diagonal, a 13 in laptop 33.02 cm. Heights run through it too — this page's default, 69 in, is 175.26 cm, the total-inches form of 5 ft 9 in. Photo prints (4×6 in = 10.16×15.24 cm), luggage dimensions and bike wheel sizes (a 29 in wheel is 73.66 cm) all convert with the same single multiplication.
The classic mistake is the feet-and-inches trap in reverse: 5 ft 9 in is 69 inches, not 5.9 feet and not 59 inches, and each wrong reading costs centimeters — converting “5.9” as inches would give a doll-sized 14.99 cm. The second trap is fractions: US tape measures speak in eighths, so 3½ in is 3.5 in, which is 8.89 cm — enter the decimal, not “3.12”. This converter takes decimals, so convert the fraction first (1/8 = 0.125) and the rest is exact.
Worked example
69 inches is 175.26 centimeters: 69 × 2.54 = 175.26 — the metric form of 5 ft 9 in, found by converting feet and inches to a single inch total before multiplying.
